iPhone in Canada - Tips and Tricks for Canadians iPhone Users: http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-news/att-releases-iphone-3g-pricing-rogers-listen-and-learn/

Let see, plan A: come out with reasonable pricing. Plan B: hire a PR firm to whitewash the underlying policy of 'gouge your customers'.

Nice move Rogers. People discount what comes out of a PR firm as distortion and half truth. This is because they understand that it's not what you SAY, it's what you DO.

Rogers needs to stop with PR nonsense and fix their plans.

The only way to get changes to Rogers plans/pricing is to NOT buy an iPhone from Rogers, until they adjust pricing. If sales are far BELOW Rogers expectations and we continue the organized complaint campaigns (like www.ruinediphone.com), then Rogers will take note. It's all about revenue!

Gizmodo has a piece on the whole "buy an unlocked iPhone".

They say if you sign up for the contract and cancel, it will be cheaper than buying an unlocked iPhone from AT&T. (bringing the 16gb cheaper than a 8gb unlocked)

Now y'all go check if Rogers will be the same thing!

We say that it is confirmed that Rogers has hired this PR company, but all he have are emails to bloggers? If this is true shouldn't we wait until Rogers actually says this. Any advanced user can spoof header and info to make it look like this is legitimate. Just sayin'.

So if I calculated this right, I'ld save 30$ from the unlocked 8gb if I cancel a basic 60$ plan.

72$ for the plan (after taxes, quebec tax included, grrr)
400$ for the early termination fees
225$ for the 8gb (after taxes, quebec tax included)

Round it up to 700$ to be safe....

This is insane, AT&T charges 175$ early termination fees...

Another good comment on Gizmodo talks about France forcing mobile devices to be sold unlocked. If that is true, then the world will fall into the hands of communists alas!

Got an email back form rogers customer service.

    under the normal PR blather ("it's good for you trust us") was an interesting statement: they said "their studies showed" that iPhone users only use 100MB of data a month. Maybe they had a study that showed that. WHEN iphone was;

-EDGE vs. 3G (remeber how much you surfed with dialup?)
-Before youtube viewing (100MB is like 15 min per month of video)
    -before app store
    -before GPS enabled maps

Rogers is just crazy. not greedy just off their Roger Rocker.

that's it, moving to the states! ugh i hate you rogers!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Tina · 1 year ago
so wait, it "includes roaming".... does that mean i can sign up down in the states and just roam forever since i live up here? do i need a US zip code (cuz that can be arranged).

Nationwide... We're not a part of their nation, so no, it doesn't include us, unfortunately.

If Rogers doesn't make a fast turn-around, they're losing me as a customer. That means, July 12th.

What I want to know is can I get an iPhone without a data plan? Yeah, I know that it's better with a data plan, but 90% of my time is spent within wi-fi access (at least for the next 6 months or so), so I want to know if I can get an iPhone and sign up for the data plan later.
There's a bit on the Rogers web site about "If you subscribe to a plan with no data included..." but I don't know if this applies to new customers or to customers who are upgrading. Anyone have any ideas?

Matt: The email is indeed true. If you want I can forward you the original email and you can see for yourself. Plus, I called the contact number and left a voicemail--the company is legit. ;)

Hope someone from Rogers reads this-You just lost your chance to take me away from Bell. With 2 months left on my incredibly low monthly-yet-feature packed plan, today I renewed for another 3 years after looking at your iPhone rates. I was ready to pay the $80/mth if the plan was like AT&T's plan, which is more than double my current rate plan(Aprox $30/mth, no data but Call ID, Voicemail, 200 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends). Instead I've decided to stick with my current plan for another 3 years, by which time I will likely see a much better 4th or 5th gen iPhone, more carrier competition in the GSM market(ergo a another Canadian GSM carrier with the iPhone), and a real plan that makes sense. Your loss Rogers.

    BEWARE ROGERS RIPOFF ROAMING RATES

I have a non-jailbreaked 1st gen iPhone. When I go to Canada, I get charged $0.79/min voice roaming, $0.50/SMS AND $0.015 / KB for web access. It's very easy to run up huge charges. Not clear how much of this is AT&T and how much is Rogers, but it's my guess that ol' Ted thinks he needs to buy more cars, houses, pools, planes, etc.
